The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Student Laboratory Support Specialist Medical Technologist is responsible to assist the MLS Program Director and Educators in the preparation and instruction of student laboratory activities in all courses, such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis. Additionally, the support specialist will ensure laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and maintained, quality control of supplies and test reagents is performed, enforce lab safety protocols that are followed and documented, maintain an adequate supply of reagents and tests, maintain accurate records of test procedures, and ensure each course provides an up-to-date student lab manual, and make suggestions to program director and educator of modifications and updates. Additional responsibilities include staying abreast of current clinical practice and testing in the clinical laboratory, ASCP requirements, student advisement and counseling, participation in program policy development and program evaluation activities,

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree preferably in Medical Laboratory Science
• A minimum of one to three years of full time employment as an MT or MLS
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist is preferred
• Evidence of ongoing professional development

• Day Shift

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates an ability to express self effectively in all areas of communication, such as verbal, nonverbal, and written; utilizes effective listening and questioning techniques along with appropriate communication methods
• Proficient in operating lab equipment and performance of clinical testing
• Demonstrates laboratory related psychomotor skills
• Demonstrates the ability to stay focused and organized, to stand for extended periods, and life boxes up to 20 lbs,
• Demonstrates expertise of subject and stays abreast of changing practices in the field of Medical Laboratory Science
• Disseminates information to Medical Laboratory Science students related to the education and training for the Medical Laboratory Science Program
• Prepares all student laboratory course activities, learning materials, and supplies; adapts laboratory activity experience as a result of feedback and direction from the program director or educator,
• Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and maintenance of laboratory activities and student records related to the activity.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director and Educators.
